Case Study - Can access VNC on one NIC but not another one Situation: a student tried to setup VNC on a Windows XP Pro SP2 with two NICs. He setup VNC using just one NIC (other one was disabled) successfully. But when he disabled the first NIC and enabled the second NIC. The VNC didn’t work. Analysis: when he installed the VNC on the first NIC, the windows Firewall added the VNC program in the Exceptions of the firewall. However, when he enabled the second NIC while disabled the first NIC, the VNC traffic was blocked. Resolution: add VNC into the Exceptions manually.
