Case Study - Connection not found xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [500]-###.###.###.###[500]

Situation: The client follow How to create VPN between Netgear FVS318 and a computer running Windows XP to create a VPN with Netgear FVS318 Firewall and Windows XP using IPSec.

Problem: Windows XP can't establish the VPN connection. The FVS318 VPN log displays this message: "Connection not found xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [500]-###.###.###.###[500]"

Cause: The firewall blocks the UDP port 500.

Resolution: In the remote site where the Windows XP is located, forward UDP 500 on the router to the Windows XP. Also add UDP port 500 to the Windows Firewall Exceptions.
