Case Study – How to set time limit for disconnected session

In a case you are disconnected from a XP Remote Desktop and cannot re-connect it, you may want to set time limit for disconnected session. To do that, please follow these steps:

  1. Open group Policy by running gpedit.msc.
  2. depending on what you want to do, you have two options as below to set time limit for disconnected session

Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services

Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services

  1. Select Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Terminal Services>Sessions.
  2. Right-click on Set time limit for disconnected sessions.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Check Enable and select time you want under End a disconnected session.
  5. Click OK to close.
