How to change SharePoint IP to DNS name

Q: we have been using a public IP address to access our SharePoint web site. Now, we would like to change the IP to DNS name. How do you do it?

A: First of all, you need to change the alternative access mapping. To do that, run SharePoint Central Administration and the click Operations. Under Global Configuration, click Alternative access mappings.

in the Alternative access mappings, click Edit Public URLs

Type the DNS name over the current IP address (4.2.2.1 in our example) as showed below. Click save to finish the change.
