How to modify the inherits permissions in SharePoint 2007

 

In a case you receive this message "This library inherits permissions from its parent Web site"  when you try to edit a user permission, you may following these steps.

 

1. Open the list, or library or folder.

2. Click Settings and then Document Library Settings or List Settings.

3. Click on Permissions for this document library or Permissions for this list under Permissions and Management.

4. You will see this message: "This library inherits permissions from its parent Web site. To manage permissions directly, click Edit Permissions from the Actions menu".

 

5. You will receive a popup message: "You are about to create unique permissions for this list. Change made to the parent site permissions will no longer affect this list". Lick OK to confirm the action.

6. Now, you can modify the the folder or list permissions by selecting Actions as shown below.
