Guidelines for Implementing windows Hyper-V Server

  • Make sure that the physical server is hardware compliant. Hyper-V requires specific hardware on the server, for example
      • 64-bit processors such as Intel VT or AMD-V
      • Hardware-assisted virtualization-enabled BIOS
  • Make sure that you install the appropriate operating system. The Hyper-V server role can be installed on any 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008.
  • For better performance, implement the Hyper-V server role on a Server Core installation. One of the concerns about Hyper-V is its performance.
  • For domain administration capabilities, make sure that the server is joined to a domain. If you want the Hyper-V virtualization server to take advantage of domain administration and management capabilities, ensure that it is a member of a domain. However, if you do not want to secure the server, you can choose to keep it as a stand-alone server.
