How to access the Internet modem

How to forward port on the Internet modem if there is a router behind the modem

1. If the modem is the gateway, you use ipconfig on one of networking computer to find the gateway IP address which is the modem IP address. Then you can use Internet Browser to access it, for example, http://192.168.0.1.

2. If a router behind the modem, you may have two situations.

1) The modem has all ports open and you don't need to manage it.

2) The mode is also firewall blocks all ports. In this case, you may have many options: a) Contact your ISP. b) The modem IP address if your router's gateway. c) use tracert command to find the modem IP. After you get the IP of the modem, you can setup DMZ pointing to the router so that all traffics go to the router. Or you can forward the ports to the router.
