How To install Active
Directory on a Windows Server Active Directory provides a central service for administrators to organize network resources, to manage users, computers, and applications; and to secure intranet and Internet network access. You can install Active Directory when installing Windows server, or after the server installation. This article describes how to promote or demote a domain controller to a stand-alone server in Windows 2000. Promoting a server to a domain controller is also the process of installing Active Directory Services on that server.
