Case Study - Upgrade
Windows 2000 DC to Windows 2003 DC
Troubleshooting:
-
Check DNS settings using nslookup. It
points to correct DNS and we can ping any servers and workstations using
–a switch or FQNS.
-
dcdiag /test:dns looks good.
-
netdiag /test:dns looks good too.
-
Even we have moved GC from ms-mvps to
chicagotech, chicagotech server,
Event Viewer has these errors: 1) Event ID: 1126 -
Active Directory was unable to establish a connection with the global
catalog. 2)
Event ID: 13508 - The File Replication Service is
having trouble enabling replication from ms-mvps to chicagotech for
c:\windows\sysvol\domain using the DNS name ms-mvps.com. FRS will keep
retrying.
-
Then we used dcdiag to test. The
following are the error we receive on chicagotech 1)
“Warning:
chicagotech
is not advertising as a global catalog.
chicagotech
failed test Advertising”. 2) "Warning:
DcGetDcName(GC_SERVER_REQUIRED) call failed, error 1355. A Global Catalog
Server could not be located - All GC's are down". 3)
"Warning: CHICAGOTECH is not advertising as a global
catalog. CHICAGOTECH failed test Advertising".
-
On ms-mvps server, we receive these
errors: 1) [CHICAGOTECH] "DsBind() failed with error
1722, The RPC server is unavailable"… [CHICAGOTECH] "LDAP connection
failed with error 58, The specified server cannot perform the requested
operation"… "Warning: CHICAGOTECH is the
Schema Owner, but is not responding to LDAP Bind". 2) "A
recent replication attempt failed: From CHICAGOTECH to
PFD-SERVER Naming Context: CN=Configuration,DC=PFD,DC=com". "The
replication generated an error (8524): The
DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure".
-
ms-mvps Event Viewer lists these error:
1) Event ID: 13552 - The File Replication Service is
unable to add this computer to the following replica set: "DOMAIN SYSTEM
VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)". 2) Event ID: 13555 -
The File Replication Service is in an error state. 3)
Event ID: 13568 - The File Replication Service has
detected that the replica set "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" is in
JRNL_WRAP_ERROR.
-
ntfrsutl sets MS-MVPS command displays:
“ACTIVE REPLICA SETS DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL
SHARE) in state JRNL_WRAP_ERROR. DELETED REPLICA SETS”.
