Case Study - Name resolution and connectivity issues on a RRAS that also runs DC, DNS or WINS

A computer that is running Windows Server may have name resolution and connectivity issues if the server is running as DC, DNS or WINS. for example, the internal clients can't access the RRAS server any more after a VPN connection is made.

Resolutions:

1. Add the A Record in DNS

2. Configure the RRAS server to publish only the IP address of the local network adapter in DNS

3. Configure the RRAS to register only the IP address of the local network adapter in WINS

4. Prevent the DNS Register A Records for RRAS

5. Use a static pool of IP addresses that is on a different IP subnet
