Case Study – How to set a time limit for active but idle Terminal Services Sessions

In a case you want to limit idle Terminal Services Sessions, you may set time limit for disconnected session. To do that, please follow these steps:

 

  1. Open group Policy by running gpedit.msc.
  2. depending on what you want to do, you have two options as below to set time limit for disconnected session

Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services

Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services

  1. Select Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Terminal Services>Sessions.
  2. Right-click on time limit for disconnected session.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Check Enable and select time you want under Set a time limit for disconnected session.
  5. Click OK to close.
