How to move the data without losing the security settings

Q: We have a Windows 2000 file server for department shared data. It is over 200GB and we would like to move the shared folder to another hard drive with lager space in the same server. Which way is faster and easy  to move data without losing the permission settings?

A: You may have many options.

1. Use xcopy with /O switch to keep ownership and ACL.

2. Use Robocopy /mir /sec will copy the ACLs, for example, robocopy c:\source\files z:\destination\folder /mir /sec.

3. Use a backup software to backup the data and restore them.
