Verifying Name Resolution on the Remote Server Before installing Active Directory, verify the DNS of the remote server is functioning and that the server can contact domain controllers. To verify name resolution on the new server 1. Log on to the server as the local administrator. 2. Click Start and then click Run. 3. In the Run dialog box, type cmd and then click OK. 4. Verify that you can ping both offices by FQDN, for example, ping servername.chicagotech.net If the incorrect IP address is returned at each ping, then DNS may not function properly. You must diagnose and solve any problems with DNS before proceeding with Active Directory installation on the second domain controller. To troubleshoot, you can use dcdiag tool.
